Staying safe while using LPG
We care about your safety and that of our staff. Because safety is important, our gas delivery person will always run a safety check on your 45kg cylinders when we come and swap your empty cylinders for full ones. It’s all part of the service.
Important safety tips to follow for both large and small LPG cylinders
- Always keep LPG cylinders upright. If you lie them down, the safety valve could be compromised.
- Always secure 9kg gas bottles when moving them in your vehicle. Do not let them roll around.
- Don’t expose cylinders to excessive heat, and do not leave them in a vehicle in the sun.
- Keep the hose from your heater or BBQ gently curved to avoid damage or kinks.
- Make sure your 9kg cylinder has a current test date stamped on it. Gas cylinders need to be certified every 10 years. At our refilling station, we can show you where to find the test date.
- Use soapy water to check if your cylinder is leaking. If you see bubbles, there is probably a leak. Turn off the valve, move the cylinder to a ventilated area, and contact us.
- Never use a match whey you are trying to find or identify a leak.
- Activities that may cause sparks, such as welding or grinding, should be done at a safe distance from LPG cylinders.
If you suspect you have an LPG leak
Please follow these instructions to safeguard yourself and your property until the emergency services or a technician arrives:
- Turn off your LPG appliances immediately
- Don’t light matches, lighters or cigarettes
- Don’t use any electrical appliances, mobile phones or even turn on a light. All these can be ignition sources
- Turn off the gas at the bottles or meter
- Open all windows and doors
